Not-for-profit organisations play a vital role in society, supporting communities, advocating for change, and responding to some of the most pressing needs of our time. Yet these organisations also operate in environments where resources are stretched, priorities are complex, and the demand for clear, compelling communication is greater than ever.
Inky Thinking enables not for profit clients to harness the power of visual thinking to connect people with purpose, strengthen engagement, and amplify impact. We’re proud to have collaborated with a range of not-for-profit sector clients including The Armed Forces Covenant Fund, Bite Back 2030, Bonsucro, Comic Relief, Neuro Key, NSPCC, OneVoiceILD, Prevent Breast Cancer, Sarcoma UK, Spectrum Space, Think Local Act Personal, and Wandsworth Carer’s Centre.
Turning mission into shared understanding
At the core of every not-for-profit is a powerful mission. Conveying that mission in a way that resonates across audiences including trustees, volunteers, funders, and communities can be complex.
Inky Thinking specialises in illustrations and visual storytelling to support charities to clarify what they stand for, the change they seek to make, and the journey they are on. These visual assets become valuable communication tools that organisations can use repeatedly, internally and externally.
Supporting collaboration and co-creation
Not-for-profits bring together diverse voices including people with lived experience, service users, staff teams, and delivery partners from across a range of sectors. Enabling meaningful contribution from everyone is essential, and visual methods make that possible. Here are a few examples of our work with this critical sector:
· Sensitively capturing conversations between carers and patients to enhance medical knowledge of those with lived experience.
· Creating a rich picture to show the tangible impact of health inequalities for cancer patients in the Greater Manchester region.
· Celebrating the momentum made by youth campaigners towards the goal of reducing junk food advertising to young people.
· Capturing insights from a deeply sensitive conversation with young carers.
· Developing a series of bespoke images for an extended, global online learning & convening event.
Strengthening storytelling for change
Impact isn’t only about delivering services, it’s also about demonstrating financial value and influencing perception. Fundraising, campaigning, and advocacy rely heavily on the ability to communicate with power and clarity.
Through accessible visual storytelling, Inky Thinking helps organisations share their achievements, translate data into meaning, and bring human stories to the forefront. When people can see impact, they are more motivated to support it.

Making communication inclusive
For many not-for-profits, accessibility and inclusivity are fundamental principles. Visual thinking aligns perfectly with these values. By reducing reliance on complex language or long documentation, visual imagery opens communication to a wider audience, ensuring that more voices are included and more people feel connected.
Proud to be a partner
Inky Thinking is proud to support organisations that make a difference in the world. By turning challenges into clear visual narratives and enabling deeper collaboration, we help not-for-profits focus on what matters most: creating positive, lasting change in the communities they serve.
Maybe you’re working in the not-for-profit sector right now or actively making a career change towards a role that adds tangible, long-term value to those who need it most. If that’s you, let’s start a conversation.
