In this post we’re celebrating one of our longest serving members of the Inky Thinking team, exploring what makes Verity tick, how she likes to work and play, and her love of colour.
When not illustrating “for work” Verity enjoys illustrating for herself, experimenting with different materials in her sketchbook and doing stuff that’s less work related. “This often eventually finds its way into my work illustration too but creating with less pressure and getting my hands dirty with paint and inks is my happy place.”
Sport is Verity’s other big thing. “It’s how I switch off and let my mind wander. I train with a triathlon team and I’m lucky to have a swim club right next to my house. Living in Las Palmas means I train outdoor year-round. I can’t complain.” Verity also has two ageing Galgos (Spanish greyhounds) that she takes for leisurely walks on the beach.

What motivates Verity is telling stories through illustrations. “Finding a narrative arc visually is a great challenge but I think messages stick better with visuals. I’m constantly honing my craft and trying different things – the joy of experimenting keeps my work alive”.
Verity has been with Inky Thinking for twelve years and was one of the very first illustrators to join the team. “We each know how the other ticks. I love the clear communication and the trust being given the freedom to come up with ideas and work autonomously with the client to get the best result all round. I also love that Tom and Esther really care about the wellbeing of the team, and I know that they are there for me when needed (and vice versa!).”
We asked Verity what her favourite Inky Thinking project has been and why, which proved hard to answer. “There are so many that I have enjoyed it’s impossible to pick a favourite. It’s usually the ones that must be turned around in record time – I love the adrenaline rush and there’s no time to overthink things. I also love when a client has nice corporate colours. My background is textile design so limited palettes – especially with pretty colours - are my thing.’
Verity certainly brings drive and energy to every project. Clients can expect quick turnarounds, enthusiasm, lots of ideas and very clear and fluent communication. “I like to manage expectations from the get-go. Projects move smoothly when everyone knows what’s needed at different stages of the project (in the case of an illustration or animation) so I like to make sure we’re all on the same page at the same time.”
