In this team feature, we sit down with one of our talented Inky Thinking team to explore what drives her creativity, how she recharges away from illustration, and the projects that excite her the most. Meet Jenn.

How do you like to relax/switch off when not illustrating?

There are two different types of switching off for me. First is with my son and family, heading out on an adventure for the day. We love going to National Trust sites, Tynemouth Beach and especially Beamish where we can let our young boy run and burn off energy like a wild, hilarious, hyperactive puppy. Other than that is has to be with friends. It is a rare occasion to have an evening child free but when we do we spend It with other people, catching up and playing games. Not much actual relaxing but its definitely ‘switching off’.

What motivates you as an illustrator and why?

Mainly other illustrators and freelance creatives. Seeing their drive and successes makes me want to be better. As well as other creatives motivating me, my mum and son push. My mum was the most incredible artist, so making her proud is a huge thing for me. And wanting to do well for my son…obviously :)

What do you enjoy most about working for Inky Thinking?

The team! They are all just the most incredible, supportive and talented bunch of people I’ve ever worked with. You can be your true self and the team chats are always a laugh and full of love. Idea sharing and tips/advice is given in bucket loads.

What’s been your favourite Inky Thinking client project, and why?

I think it is between The Divine Mercy School Hoarding and UEL Active Campus Campaign. The Divine Mercy School I added so much detail and couldn’t have been happier with the result. I had the opportunity of illustrating some real people (staff and the Pope) which was a very interesting thing to do. The whole piece came together so nicely.

UEL Active Campus was a VERY large project, but there were so many different aspects I was able to illustrate and mix parts together, it was so fun! There were four different versions to this project, each representing a different aspect of the project and initiative.

What can Inky Thinking clients expect when collaborating with you?

Definitely attention to small detail, which most of the time goes unnoticed, but I know its there and love adding it in. The possibility of something quirky (where and when appropriate of course). I always try to have a very friendly, relaxed chat with clients at the start of the project. I think this helps to bond a good working relationship and confidence to give useful feedback.
